CrewLink In-Flight Cabin
Crew Comm System
THE MILL CREEK MONSTER
The CrewLink In-Flight Cabin Crew Communication System began as a spontaneous idea out of an interview with an airline attendant. She spoke of her wish to have a way to discreetly contact the other airline attendants for assistance in case of a medical or security emergency. I immediately pictured a system that allows an airline attendant to request assistance silently without triggering anxiety in the passengers.
Basic Functionality
One main concetration for the system was discretion. My solution was a hip device about the sixe of lipstick, with LEDs on the top, each indicating a different section of the plane, and a recessed button underneath the unit, which the user can discretely trigger to initiate the call for assistance.
Cabin Map
With a single tap of the activation button, an LED will light indicating the user needs general assistance. Each indicates a different part of the place the user is located to alert the otehr attendamts: F (Front), CF (Center Front), CR (Center Rear), R (Rear).
A long hold of the button would signal emergency asssistance needed, and in addition to the blue section LED, the center white LED circle light will illuminate.
Stand-Alone Device
The CrewLink is designed to be a standalone device that connects the crew when they are not in sight. A BlueTooth charging hub would be plugged into an electrical outlet at the front or rear of the plane, with a range of up to 800 feet which can determine the position of each device so a user’s activation can accurately pinpoint the attendant’s position to accurately alert the rest of the crew.
Effectively Connect Your Crew
The CrewLink allows for effective communication for the cabin crew when other lines of communication fail. In the case of a medical or security emergency, attendants may not always be able to flag down their crew, and the CrewLink device bridges that vital gap. With BlueTooth 5.0 technology, the entire crew can be connected and ensured of the accuracy of their location. The CrewLink system could effectively connect the crew while keeping the passengers calm and safe..
